final

As in the previous year, Jimmy White was in the final, which he had reached by a white wash over Patsy Fagan . He met his compatriot Willie Thorne , who entered the tournament in the first round and had defeated record winner Terry Griffiths , among others .

Thorne got into the match better and took a 1-0 and 2-1 lead before White turned the game around. After Thorne had turned the game for his part, White repeated this, leading 5: 4, increasing this lead to 8: 4. Thorne then shortened to 8: 5, before White won the next frame with 74:17 and thus the match and tournament.
