The 1985 Benson & Hedges Irish Masters was a professional snooker invitation tournament for the 1984/85 season . It was held from March 26 to 31, 1985 in the Goffs of the Irish village of Kill in County Kildare . The winner was the Englishman Jimmy White , who defeated the Northern Irishman Alex Higgins 9: 5 in the final. White also played the highest break of the tournament with a break of 120.
Prize money
Once again, the cigarette brand Benson & Hedges sponsored the tournament. Compared to the previous year, the prize money almost doubled to £ 69,025, of which almost a quarter went to the winner.

Tournament course

The first-round and quarter-finals were played in the best of 9 frames mode , while the semi-finals were played in the best of 11 frames mode and the final in the best of 17 frames mode . After the Englishman Jimmy White had fought his way through all three rounds with relatively clear results, he met the Northern Irishman Alex Higgins in the final , who had also fought his way through all three rounds, defeating record winner Terry Griffiths and last year's winner Steve Davis , among others .
After White took the lead 2-0 and 4-1, Higgins managed to equalize to 4: 4. But then White extended his lead to 7-4, and after Higgins won another frame, White won the last two frames needed to win the match 9-5.
