final
Last year's finalist Steve Davis had defeated the winner of the last three editions in the semifinals with Terry Griffiths . In the final he met Ray Reardon , who was in the final in 1979 and 1981 and had lost both times.
Davis started the match with a 55 break and took a 2-0 lead before his opponent reduced it to 2-1. But Davis managed to expand his lead to 8: 1 without any frame gain on the part of Reardon, until Reardon prevented the direct march through with a 79 break. However, Davis won the next frame with 63:28, so he won both the frame and the match and tournament.
