final
Defending champion Steve Davis had reached the final with two narrow wins, where he met the three-time winner Terry Griffiths , who had survived the first two rounds with only two lost frames, but had only won his semi-final game in the decider .
The final was extremely one-sided: Davis pulled away 7-0 with numerous high breaks before Griffiths won his first frame with 17:66. But with a break of 64 and a break of 96, Davis made the tournament victory perfect.
