NGC 975 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type S0 / a in the constellation Whale south of the ecliptic . It is an estimated 273 million light years from the Milky Way and about 85,000 light years in diameter.

The Type Ia supernova SN 2012E was observed here.

The object was discovered by Lewis Swift on November 9, 1884 .
