NGC 983 = NGC 1002 is a bar-spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBb in the constellation Triangulum in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 216 million light years from the Milky Way and about 75,000 light years in diameter.
The object was discovered by Edouard Stephan on December 13, 1871 .
