Hyusisapayl

Hyusisapayl ( Armenian Հյուսիսափայլ , other spelling: Hüsüsapajl , Armenian for: 'Northern Lights') was the first Armenian-language magazine in Russia. The culture and literary magazine was published monthly in Moscow from 1858 to 1864 . Its editor was the Russian-Armenian publicist, historian and writer Stepan Issajewitsch Nazarjan . The magazine gained great importance for the renewal of Armenian literature . There were first publications of folk poetry, patriotic poetry as well as critical-realistic plays and novels. Basarjan's most important collaborator was Mikael Nalbandjan , who contributed his own literary works as well as literary critical work. Other authors of the journal were Ghazaros Aghayan and Smbat Shahaziz .
