Dobsonville , sometimes called Dobsie , is a district of Soweto , which in turn is part of the metropolitan municipality City of Johannesburg in South Africa .

geography

The township settlement Dobsonville is located around 18 kilometers southwest of central Johannesburg . In 2011 the district officially had 40,328 inhabitants, around 38% of whom stated Setswana as their first language. It belongs to Region D of the City of Johannesburg, which includes all of Soweto.

Dobsonville is roughly in the middle of Soweto. To the east is the district of Meadowlands , southeast Mofolo , south Zondi , southwest Jabulani and west Zola and Dobsonville Gardens, which is run as a separate sub-place and had 4245 inhabitants in 2011.

history

In Dobsonville, the Dobsonville Shopping Center - Dobsonville Mall since 2017 - was Soweto's first shopping center in 1994.

Infrastructure

Dobsonville is due to the Motorways M70 and M77, the M72 runs south to Dobsonville over. The Ikwezi station of the Gauteng Metrorail is just outside the district in Mofolo North on the Johannesburg – Naledi railway line.

The Dobsonville Stadium is the home of the former first division soccer team Moroka Swallows .
