NGC 982 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type Sa in the constellation Andromeda on the northern sky . It is an estimated 262 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 115,000 ly. It is likely to form a bound galaxy pair with NGC 980 .
The galaxy was discovered on October 17, 1786 by the astronomer William Herschel .
