NGC 981 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type Sc in the constellation Cetus south of the ecliptic . It is an estimated 202 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 60,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky are the galaxies NGC 942 , NGC 950 , NGC 977 , IC 1818 .
The property was discovered by Ormond Stone in 1886 .
