IC 1818 is an elliptical galaxy with an active nucleus of the Hubble type E0 in the constellation Whale in the southern sky . It is estimated to be 202 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 30,000 ly. 
In the same area of the sky are the galaxies NGC 977 , NGC 981 , NGC 1006 , NGC 1010 , among others .
The object was discovered on January 6, 1899 by Herbert Alonzo Howe .
