IC 1809 is a bar-spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBb in the constellation Aries north of the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 408 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 45,000 ly.
In the same area of ​​the sky are the galaxies IC 1802 , IC 1804 , IC 1806 , IC 1807 .

The Type II supernova SN 1985R was observed here.

The object was discovered by Stéphane Javelle on January 16, 1896 .
