IC 1796 is an elliptical galaxy of the Hubble type E / SB0 in the constellation Phoenix in the southern sky . It is around 222 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 75,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky is the galaxy NGC 893 .
The property was discovered by DeLisle Stewart in 1901 .
