IC 1816 is a bar-spiral galaxy with an active nucleus of the Hubble type SBab in the constellation Fornax in the southern sky . It is estimated to be 223 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 90,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky is the galaxy NGC 964 .
The object was discovered by Lewis Swift on October 12, 1896 .
