IC 1836 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type S in the constellation Cetus south of the ecliptic . It is an estimated 304 million light years from the Milky Way and about 45,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 1085 , IC 1834 , IC 1843 , IC 1844 .
The type II supernova PTF 10raj was observed here.
The object was discovered by Stéphane Javelle on January 29, 1894 .
