IC 1844 is a bright faint spiral galaxy of Hubble type Sa in the constellation Cetus south of the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 305 million light years from the Milky Way and about 75,000 light years in diameter. In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 1085 , IC 1834 , IC 1836 , IC 1843 .
The Type Ia supernova SN 1995ak was observed here.
The object was discovered by Stéphane Javelle on December 18, 1897 .
