IC 1864 is an elliptical galaxy of the Hubble type E4 in the constellation Fornax in the southern sky . It is estimated to be 199 million light years from the Milky Way and about 70,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of the sky is u. a. the galaxy IC 1862 .
The object was discovered by Lewis Swift on October 19, 1897 .
