IC 1870 is a bar-spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBm in the constellation Eridanus south of the celestial equator . It is an estimated 68 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a disk diameter of about 55,000 light years.
The object was discovered by Edward Emerson Barnard .
