IC 1868 is a lens-shaped galaxy of the Hubble type S0 in the constellation Whale south of the celestial equator . It is an estimated 355 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a disk diameter of around 40,000 light years. 
The galaxies IC 1863 , IC 1865 , IC 1867 are located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered by Stéphane Javelle on January 29, 1897 .
