IC 293 = IC 1888 is an elliptical galaxy of the Hubble type E / S0 in the constellation Perseus in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 215 million light years from the Milky Way and about 40,000 light years across. 
The galaxies NGC 1212 , NGC 1224 , IC 290 , IC 292 are located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered by Lewis Swift on September 11, 1888 .
