The Río Hollín (in the upper reaches: Río Hollín Grande ) is an approximately 85 km long left tributary of the Río Misahuallí in the Napo province in Ecuador .
River course
The Río Hollín rises in the Cordillera Real at an altitude of about 2500 m . The headwaters are 13 km west of the Sumaco volcano . The river is called Río Hollín Grande for the upper 30 km . Initially it flows mainly in a southerly direction along the southwest flank of the Sumaco. At river kilometer 55 the trunk road E20 ( Tena - Puerto Francisco de Orellana ) crosses the river. At this point the Río Hollín Chico meets the river when coming from the northwest. This is now called Río Hollín . The Río Hollín maintains its rough flow direction to the south. At river kilometers 20 and 17.5, the rivers Río Chontayacu and Río Jondachi flow into the Río Hollín on the right. This finally reaches the Río Misahuallí, which flows eastwards, 7 km west of the city of Tena, 16 km above its confluence with the Río Napo .
Catchment area
The Río Hollín drains an area of about 910 km². The catchment area extends over a 35 km long section along the eastern flank of the Cordillera Real southwest of the Sumaco volcano .
