IC 307 is a bar-spiral galaxy with an active nucleus of the Hubble type SBa in the constellation Whale south of the ecliptic . It is an estimated 347 million light years away from the Milky Way and about 180,000 light years in diameter.

The type IIb supernova SN 2005em was observed here.

The object was discovered by Stéphane Javelle on December 14, 1891 .
