NGC 1331 = IC 324 is an elliptical galaxy of the Hubble type E2 in the constellation Eridanus in the southern sky . It is estimated to be 50 million light years away from the Milky Way and about 15,000 light years in diameter .
In the same area of ​​the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 1319 , NGC 1325 , NGC 1332 , IC 1928 .

The object was discovered by the astronomer William Herschel on December 19, 1799 (listed as NGC 1331 ) and rediscovered on December 3, 1888 by Guillaume Bigourdan (listed as IC 324 ).
