NGC 1320 is a spiral galaxy with an active nucleus of the Hubble type Sa in the constellation Eridanus in the southern sky . It is estimated to be 118 million light years from the Milky Way and about 65,000 light years in diameter. It probably forms a bound galaxy pair with NGC 1321 .
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 1308 , NGC 1322 , NGC 1323 .
The Type Ia supernova SN 1994aa was observed here.
The object was discovered on September 20, 1784 by the astronomer William Herschel .
