NGC 1322 is an elliptical galaxy of Hubble type E / S0 in the constellation Eridanus at the southern sky . It is an estimated 270 million light years from the Milky Way and about 80,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 1308 , NGC 1320 , NGC 1321 , NGC 1323 .
The object was discovered on October 5, 1836 by the astronomer John Herschel .
