NGC 1300 is a barred spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBbc in the constellation Eridanus in the southern sky . The center of the galaxy has an interesting spiral structure with a diameter of about one kiloparsec. It is an estimated 67 million light years from the Milky Way and about 135,000 light years in diameter. Together with NGC 1297 , PGC 12680 and PGC 12701 , it forms the NGC 1300 group .

The object was discovered on December 11, 1835 by the British astronomer John Herschel .
