NGC 1289 = IC 314 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type SB0 in the constellation Eridanus in the southern sky . It is estimated to be 124 million light-years from the Milky Way and about 65,000 light-years across.
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 1266 , NGC 1287 , NGC 1298 , NGC 1305 .
The object was discovered by Lewis Swift on September 1, 1886 .
