NGC 1297 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type SB0 in the constellation Eridanus in the southern sky . It is an estimated 68 million light years from the Milky Way and about 50,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 1300 and NGC 1301 .
The object was discovered in February 1885 by the astronomer Edward Emerson Barnard .
