NGC 1299 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type Sb in the constellation Eridanus at the southern sky . It is an estimated 103 million light-years from the Milky Way and has a disk diameter of about 35,000 ly.
The object was discovered on January 27, 1785 by the astronomer William Herschel .
