NGC 1323 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type S0 in the constellation Eridanus in the southern sky . It is estimated to be 266 million light years from the Milky Way and approximately 70,000 light years across.
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 1308 , NGC 1320 , NGC 1321 , NGC 1322 .
The object was discovered on December 19, 1849 by the astronomer George Johnstone Stoney .
