The VW Teramont X is a sport utility vehicle from Volkswagen that is based on the VW Teramont and was initially offered exclusively in China . In 2019 Volkswagen presented the North American version with the VW Atlas Cross Sport . The vehicle is not to be offered in Europe.
history
At the New York International Auto Show in March 2018 , Volkswagen presented a first preview of a five-seat SUV model based on the VW Teramont with the VW Atlas Cross Sport Concept .
Volkswagen presented the production model Teramont X in April 2019 at the Shanghai Auto Show . Since May 2019, the vehicle has initially only been built in China by Shanghai Volkswagen .
The North American version of the five-seater was presented as Atlas Cross Sport in mid-October 2019 , it is produced in Chattanooga (Tennessee) and is intended for the markets in North America, Russia and the Middle East.

In contrast to the similarly long VW Touareg III , the Teramont X has a transversely installed engine and is based on the MQB instead of the MLB platform of the Volkswagen Group .
At its market launch in May 2019, the SUV was only with a two-liter TSI - petrol engine available with 162 kW (220 hp). Shortly afterwards, the other two engine variants known from the Teramont came on the market. The engines and transmissions of the Atlas Cross Sport are identical to those of the Atlas.
