The VW Nils is powered by a 15 kW electric motor , which is located behind the driver together with a lithium-ion battery . The electric motor weighs 19 kg and delivers 130 Newton meters of torque to the rear axle . The battery has a capacity of 5.3 kWh and can be fully charged in around two hours from a 230 volt socket .

The outer skin, like the body, is made of aluminum and offers an effective safety cell with an aluminum space frame . The basic structure is made from aluminum extrusions , aluminum casting and aluminum plate prepared. The roof frame, hinged door suspension, the roll bar behind the driver, the trunk area and the front bulkhead are made from high-strength aluminum sheet. Extruded aluminum parts are used in the area of the side skirts , the transverse profiles and the crash-optimized longitudinal profiles (front and rear).

In addition, the vehicle is equipped with the electronic stabilization program ESP , a city emergency braking function , a radar-based automatic distance control with programmable distance warning system, disc brakes and a colored TFT display as an instrument cluster . Airbags in the steering wheel and door panels provide additional safety . A mobile device with a touchscreen as a portable infotainment device (PID) to control the functions of navigation , radio , media playback, telephone , on-board computer and a fully electronically regulated heating and ventilation control are also available.

Comparable models

A similar concept, but with two seats in a row, was implemented at the same time in the Renault Twizy , which is based on the basic concept of the Messerschmitt cabin scooter . The VW Nils is more like its predecessor, the Fend Flitzer , even though it was also a tricycle.
