The Volkswagen Jetta VII is a sedan of Wolfsburg automobile manufacturer Volkswagen in the compact class . It is the seventh generation of the Jetta and has been sold in North America since 2018. In contrast to the previous versions, the model is no longer offered in Central Europe. The vehicle is built in Mexican Puebla .

history

The sedan was first presented at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit in January 2018 . It has been available on the North American market since mid-2018. With the third generation of the VW Lavida , a variant of the seventh generation of the Jetta for the Chinese market from Shanghai Volkswagen made its debut at the Beijing Auto Show in April 2018 . It has been sold there since May 2018. The VW Bora , built by FAW-Volkswagen since June 2018, is almost identical to the Lavida. The vehicle has been exported to South America since autumn 2018. In some countries it is also sold there as a VW Vento .

At the Chicago Auto Show in February 2019, Volkswagen presented the Jetta GLI, a sporty version of the sedan. It has been on sale in the United States since spring 2019.

For the first time, the Jetta is based on the modular transverse matrix from Volkswagen AG . Nevertheless, with the VW EA211 there was only one drive variant to choose from at the market launch . It is a 1.4 liter gasoline engine with 110 kW (150 hp) and a maximum torque of 250 Nm. The basic equipment of the seventh Jetta generation has a 6-speed manual transmission , higher equipment variants have an 8- speed automatic transmission , which is available for the basic version at an additional cost.

The Jetta GLI presented in spring 2019 is powered by the two-liter gasoline engine with 169 kW (230 PS) familiar from the Golf VII GTI . It has a 6-speed manual transmission as standard, and a 7-speed dual clutch transmission is available as an option.

In particular by a turbulence-tail design and streamlined underbody of the new Jetta reaches a c w -value of 0.27. This is around ten percentage points better than that of the previous model.

Trivia

In August 2018, a modified Jetta VII reached an average speed of 338.15 km / h on the Bonneville Flats at Bonneville Speed ​​Week in the US state of Utah . The vehicle thus set a new speed record in the BGC / G class of the Southern California Timing Association (SCTA). The sedan was powered by a 447 kW (608 PS) two-liter TSI petrol engine from the VW EA888 series . The record vehicle was lowered, had smooth disc wheels with special tires for the surface of the salt lake and a braking parachute .
