The VW Tacqua is a compact SUV from the Chinese joint venture FAW-Volkswagen .
history
The vehicle was presented in China at the beginning of November 2019. Sales started that same month at the Guangzhou Auto Show . The SUV is almost identical to the Chinese version of the VW T-Cross . However, this is not built by FAW-Volkswagen, but by SAIC-Volkswagen . In contrast to the T-Cross sold in Europe, the Chinese models are around ten centimeters longer.
Two models of the series are thus offered in China. This market positioning is not uncommon in China, for example, Toyota also offers the Toyota RAV4 as a Toyota Wildlander or Honda offers the Honda HR-V as a Honda XR-V . Even Volkswagen has with the VW Bora and Volkswagen Lavida Plus more identical models in the portfolio. The reason for this strategy is the regional differences that can be found between Beijing and Shanghai . FAW-Volkswagen focuses on the Beijing market in the north, where performance and prestige-oriented customers can be found, while SAIC-Volkswagen focuses on fun and lifestyle-oriented customer segments that are more likely to be found on the Shanghai market in the south.
