The VW Jetta V (type 1K2 / 1KM (USA)) is a lower middle class passenger car made by Volkswagen . The model derived from the Golf V was presented in early 2005 at the LA Auto Show (USA) as the successor to the VW Jetta IV , which was called Bora in Europe . After the official start of sales in North America, the model was also introduced on the European markets in September 2005 (under the name Jetta ).
In China, the Jetta V is sold under the name VW Sagitar . In Argentina and Chile, where the Jetta IV was sold as VW Bora as in Europe, the Jetta V is again under the name VW Vento , in Mexico the fifth generation is called the VW Bora .
The Jetta SportWagen , which is identical to the Golf Variant based on the Golf V, was presented in North America in August 2007 . The same model is called the Jetta Variant in Brazil .
Model history
Actually, the series should be discontinued after the fourth generation, due to the low success. The success and the market position of Volkswagen in the USA, which was secured with this particular model, meant that the history of the model continued. The Jetta will now be built exclusively in Puebla (Mexico) and from there exported mainly to the USA and Europe.
In 2007 around 100,000 Jettas were registered in the USA and around 52,000 in Europe.
design
The rear section is similar to that of the VW Passat B6 , the front section is similar to that of the Golf R32 (a VW-typical, large chrome grill up to the bumper, the rib design is derived from the Phaeton ). In contrast to the Golf V, on the sides of the Jetta there is an additional bead at the level of the door handles, which extends over the entire length of the vehicle. The fifth generation is almost 20 cm longer than its predecessor; these were all about the same length between 1984 and 2005.
variants
The top model in the USA, the main market, is again the GLI, which is optically and technically based on the Golf V GTI and operates there as an independent model.
The Jetta V is sold as VW Bora on the Mexican market, as the Jetta IV continues to be built there and is also marketed as the Jetta. The standard engine for the North American market (USA, Canada and Mexico) is a five-cylinder in-line engine with a four-valve cylinder head, 2.5 liter displacement and 110 kW (150 hp). According to the Volkswagen of America website , the Jetta uses the same cylinder head as the V10 engine in the Lamborghini Gallardo . The drive of the Audi TT RS is also derived from this engine.
In China there is the VW (New) Bora , which is technically based on the Jetta V.
