The VW Phideon ( Chinese 輝昂 / 辉昂 , Pinyin Hui Áng ) is a four-door notchback - Limousine of the upper class of the German car manufacturer Volkswagen , in collaboration with SAIC Motor of Shanghai Volkswagen to date exclusively for the Chinese market in Anting is built. The vehicle was presented at the Geneva Motor Show in spring 2016. The SAIC VW managers do not rule out an export to other markets, but Europe is not to be supplied. In China, the sedan arrived at dealerships in October 2016. The Phideon is based on the Chinese long version of the Audi A6 . The Phideon is the first VW to use the new modular longitudinal construction kit (MLBevo).
At the Shanghai Motor Show in April 2017, Volkswagen presented the Phideon as a GTE plug-in hybrid model .
background
The name consists of the made-up word Phide-on and is supposed to remind of Fides , the Roman personification of trust.
