It was shown as the Concept C study at the 2004 Geneva Motor Show and also officially presented on September 12, 2005 at the IAA. The market launch, postponed several times for quality reasons, was on May 19, 2006.

The Eos was produced together with the VW Scirocco , VW Sharan and Seat Alhambra at the subsidiary VW Autoeuropa - Automóveis Lda. ( GmbH ) in Palmela (Portugal).

The Eos is based on the chassis of the PQ46 platform of the VW Passat B6 . The wheelbase corresponds to that of the Golf V platform PQ35. The body was not derived from a closed sedan model, but is an independent new development. Since the introduction of the Golf VI, there have been new exterior mirrors in the design of the Golf VI. The electric, five-part CSC (coupé, sliding and convertible) steel folding roof of the Eos was developed by the Webasto subsidiary Oasys (Open Air Systems GmbH). The convertible top, with an integrated electric sliding / tilting glass roof as standard, closes over the four seats within 25 seconds. A wind deflector was offered as an option, whereby the rear seats can only be used as storage space when installed.

Access to the rear is made easier by the easy-entry function, with which the front seats can be moved forward when the backrest is folded down and return to their old position when folded back. The trunk has a capacity of 205 l (roof open) / 380 l (roof closed); the trunk lid is made of fiberglass-reinforced plastic and is electrically pulled into the lock for the last few millimeters.

Facelift

On October 7, 2010, VW presented the revised Eos and published press photos.

The front was adapted to the new uniform face according to the Golf VI and the redesigned rear lights were straightened. The interior was hardly changed.

The revised Eos was introduced in January 2011. The 3.6 liter six-cylinder engine was no longer available.

Production of the Eos was discontinued in May 2015, and there will be no immediate successor due to the Group's cost-cutting measures.

Technical specifications

Four petrol and one diesel engine are available for the Eos. The 1.6 FSI entry-level model was replaced in October 2007 by the 1.4 TSI, which is more powerful and, above all, more high-torque and more fuel-efficient. The 2.0 TDI with pump-nozzle system was replaced by its common rail counterpart in May 2008 , while a year later the 3.2-liter V6 gave way to the more modern 3.6-liter V6 FSI, as it complied with the EU5 standard Fulfills.

With the exception of the six-cylinder version, all engines are equipped with a six-speed manual transmission as standard. The six-speed direct shift gearbox (DSG) is available as standard for the six-cylinder and optionally for the 2.0 TSI and 2.0 TDI.
