VW and Ford developed and produced various vehicles in South America as part of the Autolatina joint venture . Ford was responsible for developing the smaller models. The VW Logus presented in March 1993 is based on the Ford Escort , which has been heavily modified on the outside so that only details give an idea of the Escort. The four-door hatchback variant was marketed as the VW Pointer . From the 1994 model year, the VW Logus replaced the VW Apollo , which was also a joint development between Ford and VW. Initially, the Logus was available with 1.6 l and 1.8 l engines, and the 2.0 l engine was added as the most powerful engine in 1994.

In 1996 the Logus was also offered in the Wolfsburg Edition variant. After the end of Autolatina, the production of the Logus was stopped. The successor was the Polo Classic based on the VW Polo III . A later successor has been the VW Voyage since 2008 .

After Germany the Logus was never exported.
