The name VW Pointer was used in Argentina and Brazil from 1994 to 1996 to designate a compact-class passenger car that was created in cooperation between VW and Ford . The pointer was only offered with five doors. The two-door notchback variant was called VW Logus .
The VW Gol model was later sold under the name VW Pointer in Mexico (until 2008), Russia , Ukraine and Egypt .
VW Pointer (1994-1996)
VW and Ford developed various vehicles as part of the Autolatina joint venture . Ford was responsible for developing the smaller models. The VW Pointer is based on the Ford Escort , which has been heavily modified on the outside, so that only the silhouette and details such as door handles and door cutouts give an idea of the escort. A separate cockpit in the VW style customary at the time was used in the interior. The VW Pointer has front-wheel drive , 5 seats, four-cylinder engines with 2- valve technology and displacements of 1.8 l (Argentina and Brazil) and 2.0 l (Brazil only), and a 5-speed manual transmission . The fuel tank has a capacity of 64 liters, and depending on the engine variant, the vehicle can reach a top speed of up to 188 km / h. An anti-lock braking system was not available.
After Europe , except Russia, the pointer was never exported.
After the end of Autolatina, the production of the pointer was stopped. The VW Polo , VW Gol and VW Golf models now fill the gap .
