The VW Tiguan II is a vehicle model from the German car manufacturer Volkswagen in the sport utility vehicle market segment , which has been sold as the successor to the Tiguan I since January 2016 .
history
The second generation of the Tiguan was presented in September 2015 at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt am Main . The new model is based on the modular transverse matrix . The second generation is six centimeters longer than its predecessor and measures 4.49 m. The wheelbase grew by around eight centimeters to 2.68 m. The production sites for the standard Tiguan are the plants in Osnabrück and Wolfsburg . In the Euro NCAP crash test, the Tiguan II achieved five out of five possible stars.
A revised version of the Tiguan was presented at the beginning of July 2020. With the 235 kW (320 PS) Tiguan R , a new top model in the series was presented. The plug-in hybrid drive familiar from the Golf VIII GTE is also available.
Tiguan Allspace
While an extended version of the previous Tiguan I model was built for the Chinese market, a long version of the Tiguan II is also available in Europe and North America under the name Tiguan Allspace . The 4.70 m long Tiguan Allspace can be equipped with seven seats for an additional charge. The Tiguan Allspace, as well as the version of the Tiguan available in North America, are manufactured in the Puebla plant in Mexico.
The Tiguan Allspace was presented for the first time at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit in January 2017, the European version at the 87th Geneva Motor Show in March 2017. The Chinese long-wheelbase version Tiguan L , built by Shanghai Volkswagen , has been available since January 18, 2017 in trade. The market launch in North America was in summer 2017, the European market followed in September 2017.
Gasoline and diesel engines from 110 kW (150 PS) are available as drive for the Tiguan Allspace.
In China, the long version of the Tiguan has also been built as a plug-in hybrid since November 2018. The drive comes from the Golf VII GTE . The system output is 155 kW (211 hp). The manufacturer specifies the top speed of 200 km / h, the vehicle should accelerate to 100 km / h in 8.1 seconds. The electric range should be 52 km.
