The Volkswagen Jetta Pionier is a lower middle class passenger car that FAW-Volkswagen produced from March 2010 to February 2013 for the market in the People's Republic of China at the plants in Changchun and Chengdu . The model replaced the Jetta König and is the last further development of the Jetta II .
Technically, the Jetta Pioneer stayed almost the same as its predecessor. The visual refreshment of the model is unmistakable and should set a new production record for what was once the most popular car model in China. The front and rear aprons, the radiator grille and the rear lights had been revised. There was also a new dashboard with a three-spoke steering wheel and standard driver airbag to underline the new sporty aspect of the Jetta. The standard equipment now also included a CD player with MP3 function, an Isofix fastening system for child seats, the seat belt alarm for the driver as well as an anti-lock braking system and an EBD system for better distribution of the braking force. The electrically adjustable exterior rear-view mirrors were reserved for the taxi version.
The standard engine was the 1.6-liter RSH with an output of 70 kW (95 hp). Its consumption is given as 6.1 liters per 100 km. The optionally available 1.9-liter diesel engine with an output of 47 kW (64 hp) was more economical in terms of fuel consumption. Its consumption is stated by the manufacturer as 4.5 liters per 100 km.
After almost 29 years of production of the Jetta II, production ceased in March 2013. The successor was the Jetta Night , which still has the characteristic features of the Jetta pioneer.
