The Volkswagen Jetta VI is a vehicle model from the Wolfsburg car manufacturer Volkswagen in the compact class . It represents the sixth generation of the Jetta and was first presented to the public on June 15, 2010 in Times Square in New York . The market launch in Europe took place in January 2011.
This generation is built for the market in the People's Republic of China in the Volkswagen plants in Anting , Changchun and Chengdu . Since the second generation of the Jetta is also being marketed there in a revised form as the Jetta Pioneer , other model names are used for the more contemporary generations. This model is marketed by FAW-Volkswagen as the VW Sagitar . At Shanghai Volkswagen , on the other hand, it is produced as VW Lavida . In Argentina, the sixth generation is as before as VW Vento on the market, as was the third in Europe. In the colloquial Argentine language, Jetta means bad luck when pronounced . The Vento Variant derived from the Golf Variant is also offered there.
The successor Jetta VII was presented at the North American International Auto Show in January 2018 .
overview
The notchback body of the sixth generation of the Jetta is nine centimeters longer and 2.3 centimeters higher than the previous Jetta V model . With the wheelbase extended by seven centimeters , passengers in the back seat have more legroom.
Unlike its predecessors, the body was designed independently and no longer shares any components with the technically closely related Golf VI . The inside and outside of the Jetta VI is very similar to the New Compact Coupé study that VW presented at the NAIAS in Detroit in January 2010 .
From July 2013, in addition to the previous equipment lines Trendline , Comfortline and Highline, a new version of the Jetta Hybrid was available. This has a lithium-ion battery with an energy content of 1.1 kWh. This reduces the trunk volume. In addition, the Jetta Hybrid differs from the other versions in numerous details such as the radiator grille, rims and seat covers.
Facelift
In September 2014 there was a slight facelift, which, in addition to optical retouching outside and inside, also included a modernization of the entire range of engines (now in accordance with the Euro 6 emissions standard). The 2.0 TSI was dropped and the 1.6 TDI was replaced by a slightly more powerful 2.0 TDI.
In Germany, the Jetta has only been offered in a single equipment variant since the facelift, which roughly corresponds to the previous Comfortline. The Jetta was withdrawn from the German market in mid-2016.
In Austria, three equipment variants have been offered since the model update (Trendline, Comfortline and Highline).

Stars in the Euro NCAP - Crash Test (2011) |
At launch in Europe in 2011. Four TSI - gasoline engines kW (105 hp) to 147 kW (200 hp) and two of 77 common rail - diesel engines with 77 kW (105 hp) and 103 kW (140 hp) available. All engines meet the requirements of the Euro 5 emissions standard . The two 77 kW petrol and diesel engines are optionally available with the BlueMotion Technology package, which is intended to reduce the vehicles' fuel consumption through various technical measures. With the exception of the 1.2-liter gasoline engine with 77 kW, all engines are available with a dual clutch transmission at an additional cost .
In North America, the engines traditionally use comparatively large naturally aspirated engines. There is a 2.0-l petrol engine with 83 kW (113 PS) (corresponds to the "ABA" eight-valve engine) and a 2.5-l five-cylinder petrol engine with 125 kW (170 PS), as well as the 2.0 l diesel engine with 103 kW (140 PS).
There are also differences between the EU and US models when it comes to the chassis: While the vehicles in Europe are equipped with multi-link rear axles with independent wheel suspension and disc brakes, this configuration is only used in the US model with the higher equipment lines SEL and TDI. The remaining variants are equipped with a simpler twist beam axle with disc brakes at the front and drum brakes at the rear.
Prices in the USA start at 15,995 US dollars (equivalent to around 11,430 euros , price without taxes) for the "Jetta S" equipment line with the 2.0-l four-cylinder with 83 kW (113 hp) and in Germany at 20,900 euros for the 1.2-l TSI four-cylinder with 77 kW (105 PS) in the "Trendline" equipment variant.
In the US NCAP crash test, the Jetta achieved four out of five stars.
