history
After ceasing production of the VW CC and VW Phaeton in 2016, Volkswagen published a sketch of the Arteon in November 2016. It was presented as the new top model at the Geneva Motor Show on March 6, 2017. The market launch of the station wagon with elements of a four-door coupé took place on June 16, 2017. The first Arteon was handed over to a customer on June 19, 2017. Initially, only a 206 kW (280 PS) two-liter TSI engine and two 176 kW or 110 kW (240 PS or 150 PS) two-liter TDI engines were offered.
In 2017 the Arteon won the Golden Steering Wheel in the middle and upper class category . In 2018, the vehicle was presented for the Chinese market at Auto China , where it is marketed as Volkswagen CC .
A revised version of the Arteon was presented on June 24, 2020. An additional body variant was presented with the Shooting Brake . In addition, the Arteon R with 235 kW (320 PS) is due to go on sale as the new top model in the series at the end of 2020 .
The name is made up of “Art” and the suffix “-eon”, which is intended to create a reference to the Chinese top model Phideon and to stand for elegance and premium ambience. The Arteon is produced in the Volkswagen factory in Emden and is based on the modular transverse matrix .
Concept vehicle
At the Geneva Motor Show 2015, Volkswagen presented the VW Sport Coupé Concept GTE, a first look at the successor to the VW CC. The concept vehicle is powered as a plug-in hybrid by a three-liter V6 petrol engine in combination with two electric motors. It has a system output of 280 kW (380 PS), a maximum torque of 500 Nm and should accelerate to 100 km / h in around five seconds.
None of the properties mentioned can be found in the production vehicle.
