The VW Santana 2000 is a visually and technically revised VW Santana that was jointly developed by Volkswagen do Brasil (Brazil) and Shanghai Volkswagen (China).
history
The VW Santana was introduced in Brazil in 1984 and in China in 1985, where the vehicle was extremely successful; especially as a taxi or for authorities. Since the car no longer looked at the state of the art at some point, the visually revised Santana 2000 was introduced in 1995 (this designation was only actually written on the car in China). The front is strongly based on the then modern VW Polo III . The rear was completely redesigned for the Santana 2000, with the thin C-pillar of the original giving way to a more massive construction. The distinctive step of the trunk opposite the window line was retained.
In 2004, the Santana 2000 in China was replaced by the Santana 3000 (now again just called "Santana") and the extended and high-quality Santana Vista , which is a facelift with a front that is roughly based on the VW Jetta V. The successor was introduced in China in spring 2013 .
Production in Brazil was discontinued in 2006, where the then current VW Passat B6 has been available in this class since then .
technology
The equipment and the engine of the Santana, Santana 2000, Santana 3000 and Santana Vista have been revised over and over again and adapted to current requirements.
As of the end of 2010, the Santana is powered by a 1.8 l engine with 70 kW or a 2.0 l engine with 80 kW. This roughly corresponds to the two largest engines of the original Santana, with today's vehicle meeting the Euro III and, for a surcharge, the Euro IV emissions standard.
Despite the age of the vehicle, the equipment corresponds to today's Chinese standards, so there are electric windows , central locking and ABS as standard. However, there is only an airbag in the Santana Vista and then only for the driver. For this there is also optional air conditioning, heated exterior mirrors and an automatic transmission.
