The VW Touareg (type CR) is the third generation of the SUV Touareg from Volkswagen and was presented to the public for the first time on March 23, 2018. The vehicle is based on the modular longitudinal construction kit and thus shares the platform with the second generation of the Audi Q7 , the third generation of the Porsche Cayenne and the first generations of the Lamborghini Urus and Bentley Bentayga .
body
Compared to the previous model, the Touareg is 44 mm wider and 77 mm longer, but 7 mm flatter. The drag coefficient could be reduced from 0.35 to 0.32 and the body weighs 106 kg less than its predecessor despite the larger dimensions. The weight reduction of the body is made possible by the use of 48% aluminum and 52% steel, as well as partly high-strength and ultra-high-strength steels, which allow lower material thicknesses with the same strengths. With the rear seat up, the trunk volume is now 810 instead of 697 liters for the Touareg II (7P). The turning circle is 12.2 meters, in connection with the optional all-wheel steering 11.13 meters. In conjunction with the air suspension, which is subject to a surcharge, the maximum ground clearance is 258 mm, the climbing ability for all engines is 60% and the fording depth is 490 mm (570 mm with air suspension). The ramp angle is 18.5 ° and 25 ° with air suspension. For improved pedestrian protection in the event of a collision, a so-called active bonnet with pyrotechnic triggers on the hinges is used, which raise the bonnet a few centimeters in the event of a collision with a pedestrian. This enables a larger deformation zone and reduces the risk of injury.
