The first-generation Lavida is based on the PQ34 platform , on which the VW Golf IV , Škoda Octavia I and also Seat and Audi models are built. The model was developed entirely in China and is reserved for the local market. Several well-known German engineering service providers have provided support with the development. The safety standard of the body is therefore relatively high and comparable to that of new European vehicles. The Lavida shares body and drive with the New Bora , which is built and sold by FAW-Volkswagen . Visually, the close relationship can only be seen on closer inspection. The needs of Chinese customers were specifically addressed, including the generous use of chrome parts. The sedan was presented for the first time at Auto China 2008 in Beijing. In 2010, 251,615 copies were newly registered in China.

The Lavida was offered in three engine variants. The smallest was a 1.4-liter TSI engine. In the middle was Volkswagen with a 1.6-liter engine. The top models, on the other hand, use a 2.0-liter gasoline engine. The 1.6-l engine was also installed in the VW Polo , the 2.0-l engine comes from the Passat Type 3B .

The Volkswagen Lavida blue-e-motion was presented for the first time at Auto China 2010 in Beijing . This is a prototype with a purely electric drive. The technology from the E-Golf was built into a series Lavida. A series production as Tantos E-Lavida was planned; but it remained a concept car . The maximum power of the engine was 42 kW. The maximum speed was determined to be 125 km / h.

Lavida II facelift

The second generation of the Lavida had its premiere in the summer of 2012. The competition is considered the one with the VW Jetta VI identical VW Sagitar of FAW-VW. Unlike the Gran Lavida , which is an Audi A3 Sportback adapted for the Chinese market .

It is available in three models. The entry-level model is the Trendline . This offers ASR, ESP, ABS, EBV, MASR and the MSR function as standard. The built-in engine has a displacement of 1598 cm³ and offers an output of 77 kW. The maximum speed of this is 180 km / h for the manual and 174 km / h for the automatic. Consumption is given for units with a 5-speed manual gearbox on 5 liters per 100 km. With the 6-stage Tiptronic , the consumption is 6 L.

The Comfortline has the same interior as the Trendline. There are two different engines to choose from. The standard model of the Comfortline is operated by the 77 kW motor that is also installed in the Trendline. A TSI engine with a displacement of 1390 cm³ is optionally available. Despite the smaller displacement, the output is 96 kW. The top speed is 190 km / h. Consumption is stated by the manufacturer both as a unit with a manual gearbox and with a 7-speed dual clutch gearbox at 5 L per 100 km.

The Highline offers the highest equipment variant . In this model line, it is no longer possible to order the 1.6-liter engine as a manual switch truck. The gear selection remains with the 1.4, however.

The second generation will continue to be produced despite the introduction of a successor model.
