The VW Passat B7 (Type 3C) is a mid-range vehicle from Volkswagen that was presented to the public for the first time on October 22, 2010 at the Paris Motor Show . It replaces the VW Passat B6 , on whose body and technology it is still based.
The first vehicles went on sale in mid-November 2010. In the People's Republic of China, this generation, like its predecessor, is marketed under the name VW Magotan in parallel with the Chinese VW Passat . Production began in both plants in December 2011.
Parallel to the Passat B7 there is the VW Passat (NMS) , which is specially built for and in the USA and China and is called the Passat there , but otherwise has little in common with the European VW Passat.
Production of the Passat B7 ended in February 2015.
body
The Passat B7 is based on the same platform as its predecessor, with almost no visible part remaining unchanged. In particular, the wheelbase has been increased slightly. The drag coefficient (c w value) is 0.298 for the Variant and 0.291 for the sedan. In addition, the front was optically adapted to the current VW design, which was introduced in 2008 with the Golf 6.
Passat Alltrack
The Passat Alltrack , which went on sale in spring 2012, was presented at the 42nd Tokyo Motor Show (December 3-11 , 2011) .
The Alltrack is a 30 mm higher B7 variant with modified bumpers including integrated underride protection and wheel arch extensions made of plastic. In terms of dimensions, it corresponds to the normal station wagon. The Passat Alltrack is available with 118 kW (160 PS) and 155 kW (211 PS) petrol engines as well as 103 kW (140 PS) and 125/130 kW (170/177 PS) diesel engines. All-wheel drive and dual clutch transmission are standard on the two more powerful engines . From the beginning of 2013, all-wheel drive will be standard on all Alltrack supplied. Consumption increases by around half a liter compared to the normal version. The equipment is based on the Comfortline level.
Like the VW Tiguan and VW Touareg , the Alltrack has an off-road program that is activated via a button in the center console. As a result, ABS , hill descent aid and the direct shift gearbox (DSG) are re-tuned and optimized for use in easy terrain and when towing a trailer.
In China, the model is sold as Magotan Alltrack .

Engines
The engine range largely corresponds to the previous offer on the predecessor. The 3.6-l VR6 petrol engine has been revised due to the Euro 5 emissions standard to be achieved.
A 1.6-TDI diesel version with 77 kW without DPF and two 2.0-liter TDI engines with DPF (diesel particulate filter) and with common rail injection are available, producing 103 kW and 125 kW ( from Nov 2012 130 kW) (140/170 or 177 PS). All diesel models and the 90 kW petrol engine feature a start-stop system , a gearshift display and a micro-hybrid system as standard. The 4Motion all-wheel drive can optionally be ordered for both 2.0-liter TDI engines (103 kW only with manual transmission, 125/130 kW only with direct shift transmission).
transmission
In conjunction with the 90 kW TSI engine, the 118 kW TSI engine or the 103 or 130 kW TDI engines, the dual clutch transmission has a freewheel function that temporarily disengages the engine when the accelerator is released.

Version for USA and China
An independent model has been available for the USA for the first time since August 2011. At 4.87 m, the car is 10 cm longer than the European version and more luxurious. The price is cheaper than in Europe, as the model does not have to be imported from Europe, but is built in a plant in Chattanooga (Tennessee) ( Volkswagen Group of America Chattanooga Operations LLC ).
In China this model is built for the Chinese market and for South Korea.
