The Passat Lingyu is a sister model of the Škoda Superb produced in the same plant . The model was introduced a year after the Škoda model and adapted to the luxury needs of the Chinese market. The chrome-plated radiator grille, as it is known from the Jetta V, impresses first and foremost. The interior is predominantly beige in color, while the door panels and the dashboard are maroon brown in order to create a harmonious transition. The taillights were designed with the Yin and Yang philosophy in mind.

There are the equipment lines standard (标准 型), luxury (豪华型), VIP and flagship (旗舰 型).

The standard had an in-line four-cylinder engine with a displacement of 1984 cm³ and an output of 85 kW. The luxury and VIP equipment lines had a turbo engine with a displacement of 1781 cm³ and an output of 110 kW. The flagship was equipped with a V6 engine with a displacement of 2771 cm³ and an output of 140 kW.

In late 2008 the Passat Lingyu received new taillights.

After the end of production of the Superb I, the model was technically revised and the Passat Variant was introduced as the successor.
