successor Škoda Superb II

The Škoda Superb I is the first generation of the Superb from the Czech car manufacturer Škoda Auto . It was produced in the Škoda branch in Kvasiny from autumn 2001 to spring 2008 .

It is based on the 3B / 3BG series of the VW Passat , but differs from it in terms of equipment variants and wheelbase. In China , the model with more luxurious equipment was also built and marketed as the VW Passat Lingyu .

description

The Škoda is about ten centimeters longer than the contemporary VW Passat and the wheelbase has also been lengthened by ten centimeters. The Superb corresponds to the Chinese Passat model and is sold there under the name Passat Lingyu . Although located between the middle class and the upper middle class, the space available in the rear exceeded the space of a typical luxury sedan . The car was presented to the public for the first time at the 2001 Geneva Motor Show under the name Škoda Montreux .

In addition to the standard equipment in this vehicle class such as air conditioning / automatic control and electric window regulators, the Superb was optionally available with various special equipment. This included a navigation system, xenon headlights, heated and electrically adjustable leather seats and exterior mirrors, a sound system, wooden applications, a solar or glass sliding roof, a cool box in the trunk, an entertainment system in the rear and a folding leg rest in the front passenger seat for the rear passengers. Another special feature was the umbrella compartment in the rear left door with a standard umbrella. The car also had a third sun visor (similar to that in the Golf IV and Passat 3B / 3BG), which can cover the glass surface above the interior mirror. The standard safety equipment with ABS , ESP and front airbags was due to a relatively poor rating in the Euro NCAP - Crash Test supplemented subsequently by side airbags.

Despite the comparatively low price between around 22,000 and 40,000 euros, the Superb did not sell too much in Germany. According to the Škoda press release "ŠKODA produces 750,000th ŠKODA Superb" from April 29, 2015, a total of 136,068 Superb B5s were produced. The manufacturer decided against a combination model.

Facelift

In the summer of 2006 the car was slightly revised and received modified taillights, a revised front apron and a new grille. The top equipment Laurin & Klement has been added to the range.
