The Škoda 450 or Škoda Felicia was a convertible from the automobile manufacturer AZNP under the Škoda brand.

Model history

The basis for the convertible from 1957 was the Škoda 440 . This differed from the sedan and the station wagon in that it had a more powerful engine and a fabric roof; a hardtop was available as an option. In 1959, the model 450 was renamed Škoda Felicia after modernization and changes to the exterior . A hardtop was also available from around 1960 to make the Felicia all-weatherproof.

In 1964, production of the convertible was canceled without replacement. The rear-engined Škoda 1100 MBX coupé followed as a sporty model .

The Škoda Felicia was one of the few convertibles produced in large numbers in the Eastern Bloc . The exterior was considered successful at the time. A hard-tuned chassis and powerful exhaust noises should underline a sporty claim. The steering worked indirectly. The driving behavior was severely oversteering . The engine was considered elastic, but not easy to turn. The moderate fuel consumption was one of the positive characteristics.

In 1994 the name was Felicia for the compact car Škoda Felicia taken up again.

Škoda Felicia (1959–1964)

Škoda Felicia (type 994) - renamed Škoda 450 - was built from 1959 to 1964 as a coupé and convertible. A total of 14,863 vehicles of this type were produced.

Technical specifications:

  • Cylinder: 4
  • Displacement: 1089 cm³
  • Power: 36.8 kW (50 PS)
  • Top speed: 128 km / h
  • Dimensions (L × W × H): 4065 mm × 1600 mm × 1380 mm

Škoda Felicia Super (1961–1964)

From 1961 there was also the Škoda Felicia Super (type 996) with a more powerful engine.

Technical specifications:

  • Cylinder: 4
  • Displacement: 1221 cm³
  • Power: 40.4 kW (55 PS)
  • Top speed: 130 km / h
  • Dimensions (L × W × H): 4065 mm × 1600 mm × 1380 mm

The performance data are gross SAE PS . The number of horsepower according to the usual DIN-ISO standard was slightly lower, at 47 or 50 DIN-HP for the Felicia Super. In addition, vehicles exported to the GDR were delivered with reduced compression, so that the Felicia Super had a lower output of 40–42 or 43–44 DIN PS. The reason for the measure was the lower octane number of the fuels available in the GDR , and the Škoda engines also tended to ring more strongly than other designs due to the less than optimal combustion chamber design.
